Overtime rules by state and country, calculated automatically

Overtime rules differ by place: 40 hours a week under the US federal FLSA, daily overtime and double time in California, a weekly threshold that changes by province in Canada, 125% and 150% plus a Shabbat premium in Israel. KronosTeam lets you set the rules your business follows once, then prices every clock-in with them.

Start from your country, then adjust

Under Settings → Payroll, pick a starting point and edit anything that does not match your policy or contracts. Every rule shows how it changes an example week before you save.

  • US federal (FLSA): time and a half after 40 hours in the workweek
  • California: 1.5× after 8 hours a day, 2× after 12, the weekly 40-hour rule and the seventh consecutive day
  • Canada: a preset for every province and territory, e.g. 44 hours a week in Ontario, 40 in Quebec, 8 a day and 12 for double time in British Columbia
  • Israel: an 8.6-hour day and a 42-hour week, 125% for the first two overtime hours of the day and 150% after, a 7-hour night shift, and 150% on Shabbat and the nine holidays from sunset
  • Custom: any combination of the rules below

Every rule you need, in one place

  • Daily overtime tiers, e.g. after 8 hours and after 12
  • Weekly overtime by regular hours in the workweek, with the workweek start day you choose
  • Seventh consecutive day in the workweek
  • A weekly rest window, such as Saturday or Friday evening to Saturday night
  • Night hours and holiday dates at their own rates, or Israel's holidays filled in every year
  • A rest window that follows sunset, like Shabbat
  • Unpaid breaks and punch rounding to 5 or 15 minutes

No double counting

Hours already paid as daily overtime do not count again toward the weekly limit. When overtime and a premium meet, you choose whether the higher rate applies (no pyramiding, as under the FLSA) or the premiums add up, so overtime on the rest day is paid at 175%.

Your time zone, real hours

Each minute is placed in your business's time zone, so a night shift is split at local midnight, the rest-day premium starts exactly when your rest window starts, and the daylight-saving change counts the hours people actually worked.

From clock-ins to pay

Pay is calculated from the punches employees record with the GPS time clock, not from the planned schedule. Managers see each employee's pay so far this month, in your currency, with regular, overtime and premium hours broken out.

Frequently asked questions

Which plans include the overtime rules?

Every plan, including the Free plan for up to 5 employees. Plans differ only in the number of employees.

Is this legal advice?

No. The presets are a starting point. Check them with your payroll advisor; you stay responsible for paying according to the law and your contracts.

Can each employee have different rules?

Rates come from each employee's contract. You can also let contracts set their own daily overtime, rest-day rate and break.

What about my existing settings?

Businesses that have not chosen rules keep the calculation they had before. Nothing changes until an admin saves new rules.
